Untitled

The ship without a mainmast (centre) is probably French and appears to be in the act of striking her colours or surrendering. The ship sailing away from her is a British Navy frigate, probably c. 1780. Battle action is also taking place in the background. It may be that this painting depicts a navel encounter from the Anglo-French War of 1778-1783.

Artist: Possibly Dominic Serres.
