Kathleen Herbert Morris (1868-1956).

Kathleen Herbert was born in Muckross House in 1868. She was the second child of Major Henry Arthur Herbert and his wife Emily Keane.

In July 1894 Kathleen married Alfred Morris, a former captain in the 20th Hussars. The couple lived in London and had two sons, Alfred Ashurst (b. 1895) and John Herbert (b. 1898). Tragically both were killed in action, in 1918, during the final months of the First World War.

A number of surviving letters indicate that Kathleen retained a life-long interest in Muckross. You can listen here to an extract from one she wrote in July 1938 following a visit to her former childhood home.

Kathleen died in London in 1956.
